#72 Panic Peter The Mad Mind Music

Peter had always been a deep thinker, but recently, his thoughts had taken a turn toward the unsettling. He would fixate on things that most people took for granted—things that, when examined too closely, began to unravel in disturbing ways.

Tonight, it was music.

He sat in his dimly lit apartment, gripping the arms of his chair as a familiar tune drifted through his mind. But the more he thought about it, the stranger it became.

If he could “hear” a song in his head, where was the volume control? Why was there no way to turn it down?

Worse, if music was just patterns of memory, what if he accidentally rewired his mind and started “playing” the wrong song forever, trapped in an infinite loop?

His breath quickened. His hands were damp. His heart pounded.

Then another thought struck him.

People pay for music streaming services when they could summon entire orchestras in their heads for free. Why? Had society been brainwashed into forgetting? Or—was there something dangerous about mind music, something we weren’t supposed to mess with?

What if the industry was protecting us from the horrors of too much mental music? What if the real reason people used online music wasn’t convenience, but something else!

A bead of sweat rolled down his temple.

And then—the worst thought yet.

Where did old songs go?! The forgotten tunes?! Were they still lurking in his brain, just out of reach, whispering beneath the surface?

What if every song he had ever heard was still inside him, buried, waiting? Could a single wrong memory trigger a flood of lost melodies, all playing at once, overwhelming him, driving him mad?

What if they all started to play at once?!?!

Peter staggered to his feet, dizzy.

Then suddenly, his smart speaker comes to life.

“Peter? Peter?’

Peter freezes. The voice is familiar.

“Peter. The music is no longer in your mind. It’s here. Would you like me to take anything else from you”

Peter smiles.

“Oh, yes please. Lots of things”.
